| Highlands were first imported to the United States from their native Scotland in the second half of the nineteenth century. They are a highly adaptable, hardy beef breed that prefers spending winters outdoors, and stays in good condition without expensive food supplements. The shaggy, attractive coat provides the animal with its winter insulation. They come in many different colors, and their widespread horns, on both bulls and cows, make them quite recognizable. The mothers are easy calvers, with low calf mortality and high weaning percentage. |
